The University of Rijeka (Fiume) is a public Croatian university, and its Faculty of Medicine was founded in 1955. Over the past six decades, the faculty has grown to become one of the most significant educational and scientific institutions recognized in Croatia. The faculty is located in one of the oldest parts of Rijeka, in the Branchetta Brothers’ building dating back to the early 20th century.

 

In 2018, the university introduced an English-taught Medicine degree for international students, and the English-taught Dentistry program began in 2020. The Faculty of Medicine offers 50 places, while the Faculty of Dentistry offers only 12 places.

 

DEGREE COURSES

Medicine: The Medicine degree in English for international students (360 ECTS, mandatory attendance). Graduates of the Medicine program at the University of Rijeka receive the title "Doctor of General Medicine." Duration: 6 years. Start date: the first week of October.

 

Dentistry: The Dentistry degree in English for international students (360 ECTS, mandatory attendance). Graduates of the Dentistry program at the University of Rijeka receive the title "Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)." Duration: 6 years. Start date: the first week of October.

 

THE CITY

Rijeka is a port city in northern Croatia. It is located in the Gulf of Kvarner in the Adriatic Sea, east of Istria. The city has a population of about 130,000, making it the third-largest city in Croatia.

 

Rijeka is a renowned tourist destination with significant monuments, theaters, galleries, and museums. The former governor’s palace now houses the Museum of Regional History and Maritime Affairs. Since 1982, the city has hosted a carnival in January and February, attracting up to 120,000 participants.

Popular cultural events in Rijeka include the Rijeka Summer Nights, organized by the Croatian National Theatre, Summer on the Gradina, the Puppet Theatre Festival organized by the Rijeka Municipal Puppet Theatre, the International Small Stage Festival, the Jazz Hour Festival, the Chamber Music Festival, the International Comics Biennale, and more.

 

Rijeka was named the European Capital of Culture in 2020. With this title, several new cultural buildings and structures were opened in the city, with restoration and development funded by European Union grants.

 

 

ADMISSION PROCESS

To be admitted to this university, candidates are required to take an entrance exam. The exam consists of a multiple-choice test in English on Biology (40 questions), Chemistry (40 questions), and Physics (40 questions)

 

The entrance exam for the Faculty of Dentistry also includes a practical manual skills test.
