Overview
In recent years Greece has been expanding its offer of Medicine programmes taught entirely in English, aimed at international students who want to follow a medical degree inside the European Union.
The programmes are generally structured over six years and 360 ECTS and take students step by step from the basic scientific and biomedical subjects to pre-clinical training and then to clinical work.
One of the central features of these pathways is the integration of theory and practice. After the first years devoted to the fundamental subjects, clinical teaching, practical exercises and training inside university hospitals progressively take up more space.
Studying Medicine in Greece therefore means following an international pathway in English while remaining inside the European university system, in an academic environment that is investing more and more in the internationalisation of medical education.

We will answer your questions about the programmes, admission steps and student life.
Degree programmes
On completing the Medicine degree, graduates receive the title of Doctor of General Medicine, in line with EU Directive 2005/36/EC. The degree gives access to postgraduate (master's) and doctoral studies in medical sciences, and the licence to practise medicine in the public and private sectors within the European Union.
The English-taught Medicine course in Greece is generally organised over 12 semesters, for a total of six years.
The first part of the pathway is devoted mainly to the scientific and pre-clinical subjects, such as Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physiology and other subjects that are fundamental to understanding how the human body works.
As the course progresses, clinical subjects take up more space. Students come into contact with areas such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Psychiatry and other medical specialties, until the final years, which have a strong clinical practice component.
Depending on the programme, teaching can include lectures, laboratory work, small-group teaching, case-based learning and practical training directly in a clinical environment.
The programme is aligned with the European framework (Bologna/ECTS), and the degree is recognised in Europe in accordance with EU standards and the applicable procedures.
City and student life

Studying Medicine in Greece means an international university experience in a European Union country with a strong academic tradition and a university system that has significantly expanded its English-taught offer in recent years.
The presence of international students creates a multicultural environment, while the relative geographical and cultural closeness to Italy can make settling in easier than in destinations outside Europe.
Living costs naturally vary with the destination, the type of accommodation and personal habits, but they should be considered together with tuition when planning the whole pathway.

Next academic-year session
Admission requirements for English-taught Medicine programmes in Greece can vary depending on the programme.
The first stage is a written multiple-choice test, entirely in English, made up of:
To pass, candidates need at least 50% correct answers overall, counting the combined score of the two subjects.
Passing the test does not automatically mean a place: candidates then enter a ranking built on the results of the selection procedure.
There is also an oral interview in English, to check that the candidate can communicate appropriately and follow a degree taught entirely in English.
Admission requires English at B2 level or above. Candidates must therefore hold an official B2 English certificate and take the oral interview in English during the selection procedure.
Final admission is always decided through the ranking, on the basis of the results obtained and the places available.
